Beware. “Black” probably describes the color of the enclosure, not the WD HD model/line. I’d love to find a 4TB “black” WD disk for less than $160.
* Found a 1TB black drive for $90 at Target.com “WD Black” HDDs have 5 yr warranty. This is not a bad price for a WD-Black, IMHO.
* Found a 4TB WD Black External “My Passport” for $100 at Target.com. 2 yr warranty. The HDD inside is 5400rpm, so definitely **not** a “WD Black” HDD.
* Found another 4TB WD Black External “My Book” for $120. 2 yr warranty. 4200rpm, so definitely not a WD-Black drive either.
https://www.wdc.com/products/internal-storage/wd-black-desktop.html#WD4004FZWX($190) is a WD Black 4TB HDD. 7200rpm, 5 yr warranty. WD4005FZBX ($184) is another model with double the cache.
For my money, outside the SAS market, the WD-Black “Performance” line is the best HDD money can purchase. The 5yr warranty,7200rpm says that WD believes in them.
